The ranking was drawn from a well-being index from a recent Fitbit study that weighed livability factors while also considering the evaluated cities’ acceptance of their LGBTQ communities. Although both Rotterdam and Amsterdam were outranked by Reykjavik, the city is on the up these days following news that it would also be hosting the 2020 Eurovision song contest.

The Score

A total of 77 world cities were evaluated and measured with respect to different livability factors. The factors which included living costs, safety, and traffic among others were then scored on a ten point scale. While not one city scored highly across all factors, Rotterdam did score favorably in other areas as well, areas like youth unemployment and individual happiness for instance are indicators that the city is doing something right. Now while studies such as this are not the end-all be-all of things, its clear such recognition is good for city and good for the LGBTQ community. You can view the full list and the methodology of the rankings here.
